President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stepped up security efforts following a fresh wave of deadly attacks on Nigerian troops, including the killing of a senior officer and six soldiers in Borno State.

đź’Ł Deadly Blow in Borno

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai came under attack in Monguno, where insurgents planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The explosion killed a commanding officer and six soldiers — a loss the military described as a reflection of “courage and leadership from the front.”

The North-East, long plagued by insurgency, continues to witness repeated assaults from groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP.

🏛️ Emergency Security Moves

In response, Tinubu held:

  • A closed-door meeting with Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede and a French military official
  • A high-level emergency session with service chiefs and intelligence heads

Security agencies present included:

  • Army, Navy, Air Force leadership
  • DSS and NIA chiefs
  • Inspector-General of Police

This signals intensified coordination and urgency at the highest level.

🇫🇷 France Partnership in Focus

The President is also pushing international collaboration.
Following talks with Emmanuel Macron, France has agreed to:

  • Supply military equipment
  • Provide training support

Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to use credit lines and diplomatic goodwill to strengthen security capacity.

⚠️ Rising National Security Concerns

The situation across Nigeria is becoming more volatile:

1. Controversial Airstrike in Borno
A Nigerian Air Force strike targeting insurgents reportedly killed over 100 people, including civilians, in Jilli market.

  • Military: “Legitimate terrorist hub”
  • Amnesty International: Called it “reckless” and demanded investigation

2. US Security Alert
The United States Department of State:

  • Approved evacuation of non-essential staff from Abuja
  • Issued “Do Not Travel” warnings for 20+ states

The Nigerian government, however, insists there is no total breakdown of law and order.

🔥 Fresh Violence in Benue

Beyond the North-East, killings spread to Benue State:

  • At least 14 people killed in coordinated attacks
  • Communities in Apa and Otukpo LGAs hit
